Last Saturday, Big Brown, the horse that outpaced all competition in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and was the favorite to win the Belmont Stakes, came in dead last in that contest. If he had won that race, Big Brown would have become the first horse since 1978 to win all three contests, together called the Triple Crown. He was undefeated in five career starts, but at Belmont never once looked like a winner.
